Community Empowerment Statement

At NWAFASA, we believe that empowered communities are the foundation of a strong and sustainable agricultural economy. Our commitment to community empowerment is rooted in the principles of equity, dignity, opportunity, and self-reliance.

We work hand-in-hand with local farmers, women, youth, and rural groups to ensure that development is not only inclusive — but led by the people it aims to serve.

Through access to knowledge, land, markets, and tools, we help communities move from survival to sustainability, from dependency to leadership.

We empower communities by:

  • Providing training and mentorship to build farming and business skills
  • Supporting youth and women-led enterprises in agriculture
  • Facilitating access to finance, inputs, and land
  • Promoting cooperative development and group-based farming models
  • Creating market linkages that help smallholders earn fair incomes
  • Encouraging environmentally sustainable practices to protect resources for future generations

NWAFASA is more than an association — we are a movement for local empowerment, rural transformation, and agricultural justice.

We envision rural communities that are not left behind but are leading the way in building South Africa’s food systems and economic future.
